How to Cover a Table in Oilcloth

So I had this table -- ugly -- marked up -- destroyed by the kiddos -- but fully functional.  What to do?

COVER THAT BABY!!

Pull Edges Tight Before Securing

PROJECT FILE:

Material
  • 1-2 Yards Oilcloth
  • Staple Gun and Staples
  • Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun
  • Table, Cabinet, Chair Seat, etc.
Prep Time:  Minimal
Craft Time:  30 minutes MAX
Cost:  $1.00 (well $3.00 if you count the purchase of the table as well)

Slick Surface with Waterproof Covering for a Child's Table

THE METHOD:  Basically, you attach the cloth with hot glue adn/or a staple gun to your tabltop, corkbaord, etc. etc.  The surface is water proof and tough as nails, but still bens easilly like cloth.  You have to make sure to keep the cloth tight and without bubble as you apply it, but it is a simple process, akin to recovering a chair seat or stretching a canvas.  YOU CAN DO IT!  For the full step by step, you can see my tutorial on Houzz RIGHT HERE!

Oilcloth Pleating Under the Tabletop
So the moral of the story is...if you ever see a bolt of oilcloth for cheap - BUY IT!!!!

I just love how a hot glue and staple gun can do such a wonderful job! Looks great! I would probably spray paint the chairs white or something, but that's just me ;)

I've been looking at oilcloth...this is a genius idea! Especially with kiddos that are SO hard on furniture...
