In honor of the peonies...

I've always thought peonies were the poor (wo)man's rose. I must say this rose is pretty, but nothing compared with an amazing, dripping onto the ground, peony bush.

...and I'm sad that we don't have any at our new place, so in honor of the humble (thornless!)peony that I think gives roses a run for their money on beauty and scent, I wanted to revisit them HERE on this post from last spring. Enjoy!

You think I'm kidding about my obsession with this plant? Click HERE :)

This year I'm moving onto ranunculus because I can dig them up and take them with me in the fall...another worthy rose alternative. Keep posted for how they do...I've got a few that are sprouting, so not sure how many rotted in the rain we've been having...hopefully very few :)

I hate when people take pictures of me...

I really truly hate when someone breaks out a camera and wants to take a picture of me...which is a bit odd considering the photography and all...but nonetheless I hate it! Maybe it is because I only like photos of me from this angle...
...or this similiar angle...
...always from above...

...the best is from my favorite angle AND just a small little bit of me...

...or a nice blurry image of myself like this...

...sometimes a profile is acceptable, but not usually...

...I'd much rather be taking pictures of this :)

They say I can't grow ranunculus...

They say I can't grow ranunculus...I say bah-humbug.

My love affair with these bourgaise roses began in a Lincoln nursery. I saw a gorgous flower in bloom and even gathered up the courage to ask what it was. I went home and researched till my eyes hurt and then did nothing. Until now...two years later and a move into zone 6 and I decided to give it a go. I've got a few more gardening skills up my sleeve and no real garden to speak of, so my focued energy goes into the 20-some pots I've got growing.

They (the wise, experienced, bah-hubug gardeners) say that it will be worthless to try to grow them here because it will be too hot, but I'm going to try. I'm going to give the little guys expensive miracle grow cactus soil that drains well and watch them like a hawk so they get the requisite full sun, but not too hot temps...maybe an outdoor air conditioner for them? No, that's a bit too far, but you wait and see...I WILL get a ranunculus bloom this year...me and my spade...
